Located in the Charleston Harbor on the Mount Pleasant side of the Cooper River, Patriot’s Point is home to the USS Yorktown. The Yorktown was the 10th aircraft carrier to serve in the US Navy. Named after the Battle of Yorktown from the American Revolutionary War, USS Yorktown received the Presidential Unit Citation and earned 11 battle stars for service in World War II. With so much history aboard the ship, she earned a national historic landmark declaration in 1986. The Yorktown currently serves as a naval museum but you can experience the enormity and splendor of this and other ships at Patriot’s Point as you cruise alongside them by chartering a private boat rental from Sandlapper Tours!
