If you are interested in exploring Charleston’s “tideland treasures” then this is the Charleston eco tour for you! Join our local naturalist aboard the “Palmetto”, to discover Charleston’s abundant coastal wildlife, while cruising the Harbor and landing on Morris Island. Take pleasure in being in the midst of a maritime forest while meandering down salt-marsh creeks.
Enjoy close up views of numerous species of wading and shorebirds, such as Great Blue Herons, Snowy Egrets, Eastern Brown Pelicans, and Least Terns in their natural habitat. Marvel at the “gifts from the sea” as crab pots are pulled up to add finds to our touch tank. And to add to the excitement…dolphins are often seen at play as they grace us with their presence in the creeks and the harbor.
Does a stroll down a uninhabited barrier island sound appealing? Our naturalists will continue to explore the beach with you and explain the habitats of the abundant wildlife as seen in Charleston harbors’ estuaries. Shells anyone? You will be refreshed after spending an afternoon in the salty air and discovering “where the wild things are”!

Excellent afternoon tour – Corydog
This was an excellent afternoon tour with a friendly and knowledgeable crew and tour guide. We were able to see dolphins, learned about different crabs from the crab pot, and were shown a myriad of sea life from a collection on board. The walk on the beach at Morris Island to look for shells and sharks teeth was very enjoyable. My husband and I would highly recommend this tour for families with children, and anyone with an interest in nature.
Fun trip to Morris Island – brandyjunge
This was a small group, as only my husband, daughter and I and one other couple were in attendance, so I am sure it is different that if you go during the peak of the season with tons of people. Since there were only 5 of us, we took their small boat, rather than the large one, so I don’t know what that would be like. We headed straight our for Morris Island, stopping to watch dolphins along the way. My daughter loved it! During the short ride, the tour guide showed us some crabs and explained some of their anatomy. Upon arrival at Morris Island, we had the place to ourselves. We were given an hour to walk the beach, pick up shells, and learn about some of the plants, animals, shells, and other items we found there or saw. They did say they usually didn’t get to stay on the island that long. We found a variety of shells, including a conch, some large clam, scallop, and oyster shells, as well as shark teeth. I don’t believe this is the “normal” tour, as they said they usually have many more people, but it was fun, our tour guide and captain were friendly, and we plan on going again sometime!
Great Trip – empacker
Our family of five adults had a wonderful time on this trip. As a kindergarten teacher, I would highly recommend this activity for families with children too. The guides were very informative about many topics and welcomed questions from participants. There were animals in the touch tank that could be closely observed and a hands-on portion where different ocean objects were passed. The time on Morris Island could be better used if the guide had talked to the group as a whole on the island some first then given free time to look for shells and explore. As it was the guide went with one family with children and helped them find some shark teeth and a sand dollar. But overall the trip was well worth it. It was a highlight of our vacation for everyone in our group.
Absolutely amazing!! – MGreco
That was one of the best tours ever!! The fact that the crab trap was pulled and you were able to get off at the island was perfect!!! I would be the poster woman for this tour any day!
Great Time! – crburrow
The tour was not crowded and we received personalized interaction with the tour guides and the boat captain. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. We were able to see dolphins up close. The boat was clean and comfortable and overall the experience was very enjoyable.
